From our Wild Animal Sanctuary Visit

(click on title to go to their website)

I forgot to upload these pictures from our outting the other day in Kelli's new car! Kel took me and the girls up to Ft. Morgan to this place, the Wild Animal Sanctuary - it's a haul from Littleton, about an hour, and once you turn off the highway, you have to drive on a dirt road for a while, which the girls actually thought was fun - all the bumps.

So this place takes care of over 200 animals right now that have all been voluntarily given to them, or seized by the USDA/FBI/Police,etc... They had over 75 tigers, about 12 lions, 20 bears, wolves, mountain lions, grizzly bears, and more! We went on a self guided tour and the book actually explained the history of each of these animals - so sad - some were with traveling circuses, pets, used as photo ops, living in cars, and some had never seen another of their kind before - they all go through an indepth intake process, and then introduced to their new habitats - where they live until they pass away. It'a all privately funded with donations - they don't get any fees from the state or from the police when they are asked to come in a help sieze animals - in fact - if they don't show up, then the police just euthanize these beautiful creatures.

Local folks - it's not a zoo, so don't expect that at all if you check it out - they are very specific about wanting to educate people and don't want big groups of kids and don't allow the kids to run around or talk loud. BUT - it was a very cool experience - Morgan LOVEd getting to see this one tiger that was only about 1 year old - she kept jumping in and out of her pool and playing "peek a boo" with her mom, who was in the cage next to hers. Oh, also - take a lunch, we didn't do that, and ended up at the one of the only restaurants in town - a Carls Jr Burger place inside a truck stop off the highway!
