Fun weekend!!! We went camping with the McGarveys this weekend for 3 days to Guennella Pass, which is only about an hour and 15 minuts from our house, but was completely remote.
We were in the Pike National Forest, at about 9500 ft, in a free camping area, but you had to bring everything you need in with you - no shelters, tables, bathroooms or showers. First camping trip with the girls and I was so glad we could share the experience with our friends the McGarveys - they have camped a lot with their kids, so they were great go with.
In July, you would think it would be hot weather we would be dealing with, but it was actually cold & rain that were our issues while camping. It was only about 68-70 during the day and around 42 at night - add in a lot of rain, and it made for some cool evenings and less outdoor running around for the kids than we had wanted.
I was extremely surprised at how well Morgan did on this trip - Miss Morgan who normally needs to wash her hands 10X a day, didn't complain at all about being dirty or going pee/poo in the woods. She loved going on all the adventures, was great about taking a nap in the tent and did so well keeping herself busy when the rain forced us to hang out in our tents in the afternoons. Abby on the other hand - she didn't want to take naps, was getting bored in the tent and had a tough time around the campfire. With all her fits, frustrations and crying outbursts, she did sleep great at night and in the middle of a rain shower, asked to go on the potty - and with the rain coming down all around us, she actually did go pee on the potty!
We had a great time, rain or shine! No one got hurt, no one fell in the river, nothing flooded, no sunburn, and no wild animal attacks (although there was a one freak out moment when Kellen spotted an animal across the river bank and told me to look and I freaked out, seeing a very large black animal - knowing we were in bear territory - after some yelling and a second glance, it was just a cow!!!!). I'm so glad we went and ready to go again in a few weeks!
